So I’m killing time at work before the top of the hour and we have to deliver some things to another building on campus and so I figured I would browse slashdot and digg just to see what was going on in the nerd world, and I saw a story about republicans voting for Hillary to derail the Obama campaign.

Once the page loads I happily roll my mouse down from the tabs towards the article link when suddenly I am attacked by…. well the image below will show you.

Yes, that is a ginormous effin breakfast burrito. Problems like this at digg have happened before only I haven’t been exposed to them as I have happily used adblock at work to stop annoying flash based ads and media players, but that doesn’t work when I am at work.

I am an ardent user of digg, it’s one of the sites I visit every day and probably multiple times a day, but lately it’s been seeming less and less like the hang out for whats going on in the world and in tech and more and more like a money driven myspace clone.

I want to stick with digg, and I don’t expect them to stop serving up ads with their links, but stop with the obtrusive ads, because if you don’t the crowd will leave and then who will you serve the ads to?

This is something many have said for quite a long time, and that I have been saying for just as long. It took me a long time to come around but now that I have my browsing experience has been much improved and the same can be said for anyone I know who uses a different browser, I prefer firefox but opera and others are incredible as well.

With all that said this is the story of how SitePoint tried to give Internet Explorer a fighting chance … and it lost anyway.

Amount the war in Iraq costs per minute, according to a new analysis by Nobel Prize-winning economist Joseph Stiglitz and Harvard’s Linda Bilmes, put out by the American Friends Service Committee. The study finds that this $720 million a day could buy homes for 6,500 families or health care for 423,529 families.

The war in Iraq has cost LA County over 14 billion dollars alone, the time is now to end this war and impeach the men who started it! They have swindled our treasure away, reduced our influence abroad and worst of all, they have allowed thousands of our bravest to perish for a lie.

This story is a horribly sad one, if you remember the story of Matthew Shephard it will make you angry and sad much like that one did back then. Anyways my thanks to dailykos, and digg for pointing this out.

Three young men in Jackson County Indiana said they were so freaked out when ‘propositioned’ by Aaron Hall on April 12th, that they proceeded to beat the 100 pound, 5’4 man for hours, using their fists, boots, dragging him down a staircase while his head slammed into each step, and then throwing him in a ditch and leaving. Aaron managed to crawl out of the ditch and out into a nearby field, where he died, alone and naked.
